The club would like to thank each and everyone who competed for the club or came to support the club at the Shotokan Tokon Karate Competition.
It was a fantastic event but we were more impressed with the brilliant team spirit you all showed. Anita, Immy, Marcus, Joy, Patrick, Robert and Josh, you are all a credit to the club.
Whether you came away with a medal or not, it doesn’t matter, the team gained so much experience that we can move forward and get even better.
The team competed against 5 other clubs and not only will they remember that we came away with 10 medals they will also remember how we all supported each other. Well done team :-)

Kata and Kumite Competition January 2009
All members of the DSKC were very kindly invited to participate in a local competition between ourselves and other clubs, it was at extremely short notice but we did manage to field a team of four. Here they are in high level team tactics
Andy, David, Joy and Robert were able to attend and they did the club very proud. Robert competed in both Kata and Kumite.
And we are very pleased to say that he came 2nd in the Kata Competition
David and Andy competed in the Kata Competition but unfortunately did not place in the medal positions. Joy however was very sucessful, he joined up with two other dan grades from another club to compete in the Team Kata Competition and came 1st
He then went on to very narrowly missing out on the top spot in the Free Style Kumite Competition but came in a very rewarding 3rd place
I think you have to agree that for a first showing at the competition and with such a small team we did very well, congratulations to those who took part.
DSKC 1st Annual Kata Competition June 2008
A great evening for everyone, with a brilliant atmosphere thanks to our students and all the spectators who came to watch this first Annual Kata Competition.
Special thank you to our Judges, Martin and Andy who had a tough task. The results in some categories were very close. Also thank you to our helpers, Kata demonstrators and volunteers who helped enormously with the smooth running of the event. It all helped towards a great atmosphere and thank you to those of you who commented on how much you enjoyed yourselves.
Below is a collection of photos and video of the evening, see if you can spot yourself, also for those observant amongst you, see if you can spot when I nearly fell over walking backwards whilst recording some of the video.
Competition is a small part of Karate training, and as in life there are bound to be happy results and disappointments too. We hope you will join us in congratulating those who achieved the highest scores.

Judges' comments on these students included 'deep stances', 'good kiai' 'good etiquette' and overall the judges scored most favourably on those students that really threw themselves into the Kata without losing accuracy.

Judges comments' 'Good front stance', 'Good etiquette', 'Sharp', '1 kata above grade' - the winning students were exceptionally sharp and showed great spirit. Sensei Martin also commented that winning student Marcus Eaglen has 'almost become part of the dojo furniture' as he trains regularly and rarely misses a session. Well done Marcus!

A hard fought contest, very close results for several students. An atmosphere you could cut with a knife hand block!
Winners and commended students will all be invited to join the DSKC Kata Squad for open events coming soon.
Think you could do well in open competitions? Let us know if you would like to join in with Squad training. You'll be very welcome!
