Deeping Update - Demos and Kata Competition

Annual Kata Competition 5th June 2008

The first annual Kata competition attracted over 50 members and lots of spectators, and was a truly great night.

Every member who joined in gave a really good performance and we were impressed by the standard of Kata and the spirit you all showed. Well done to you ALL.

For some, just standing up in front of everyone is a challenge in itself and its amazing how the nerves can really strike. The fact that you all overcame this is a big part of your Karate training. It also helps you for life in general, next time you are nervous, think back to how you overcame those nerves.

For all results see the 'Competitions' link

Summer Karate Demos

By now you should all have received dates for summer demos and permission slips too - hope to see you there to support the club!

See you at training! Oss!

UPDATE...

New Senior Lesson commences on Tuesdays

From now on the 7:30pm - 8:30pm lesson on Tuesdays (Deeping St James Community Primary School) will be a SENIOR GRADE KARATE LESSON for all students holding Brown belt and above.

Other adult students are welcome to attend additional training on the understanding that these sessions are geared towards senior grades. Nevertheless they will be very useful for all adult students.

This is in response to need for these grades to train more often and learn more indepth techniques.

The session will be normal dojo fee but do please note your second session in any given week is only £2.

Sessions will be aimed at IMPACT, SPARRING and KATA work including essential bunkai which you will need as part of future gradings.

The sessions will be flexible in structure to enable senior grades to work together on areas they need to practice. Our club standards are high as you know, so it's a good opportunity to improve your Karate.

  • Grading calendar is now arranged for the remainder of 2008 - this will be issued in Club only
  • Deeping Shotokan Karate Club is now sponsored by Murphy Sawers Consulting Ltd

We are delighted to have been sponsored by Murphy Sawers Consulting Ltd, Independent Financial Advisers, who have agreed to supply us with sparring equipment for club use by juniors and seniors alike.

Most of you will recognise Scott Sawers, one of our Seniors and a loyal member of the club - so a HUGE thank you Scott and Kevin (Murphy) for this help.

This sponsorship represents an important move forward for the club as we are now fully self-reliant and are very keen to see our members develop in all areas. Sparring (Kumite) is just a part of Karate but a very important and realistic way of learning. Safety equipment is now compulsory in most Karate competitions and for good reason. It would be great to get a Kumite team together - any volunteers?

The equipment, including mitts and headguards, is on order and should be arriving very soon.

  • New Kata team in development.
Andy Roe (Roebaggs) has kindly volunteered to prepare DSKC for a number of forthcoming Kata tournaments run through the A.M.A.
Starting with an Deeping Karate Club competition in May, there will then be a Junior and Senior team chosen. We plan to attend the AMA National Karate Championships in June as spectators to gauge the standards required.

AMA BRITISH NATIONAL KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Sunday 22nd JUNE 2008 Harvey Hadden Sports Centre Wigman Road Nottingham England

Any spectators for this event are welcome, please let us know if you'd like to come along or if you can provide transport. Further details can be found at http://www.amauk.co.uk/

Get practising your Kata! Searches on online video channelYoutube www.youtube.com have given us all some inspiration. Try for Luca Valdesi standard and you won't go far wrong...

  • Club Clothing and Equipment

We have a range of polo shirts, tracksuits, shoe bags and holdalls with embroidered club logo now available. Samples will be arriving soon and the new logo looks great.

Polo shirts are available in white (club), red (team colours) and black (instructors).

Do remember that it is inadvisable to travel to club wearing your Karate gi and especially your belt (I know we all do it sometimes!) so it's worth making sure that if time is short, wear a tracksuit over the top to cover it up. You don't need a club tracksuit for this but do bear this in mind.

  • Courses through the A.MA.

All students are encouraged to attend external courses so if you are looking for a place to start, take a look at the A.M.A. course calendar. If you're interested in any of these it's worth saying so, as there are likely to be other members attending too.

That's the news for now. Comments and ideas on info@deepingkarate.com Thanks!
